Get enough sleep–ideally eight hours each night. Getting enough rest is crucial for your body to be able to heal and repair itself. It’s also important for maintaining hormonal balance. When you don’t get enough sleep, your body produces more of the stress hormone cortisol, which has a negative impact on your immune system. Aiming to be in bed by 10pm is a great goal.

Go outside to increase your Vitamin D intake. Vitamin D is essential for many bodily functions, including maintaining a strong immune system. Vitamin D helps regulate the production of T cells, which are a type of white blood cell that helps protect the body against infection. A lack of vitamin D has been linked to an increased risk of respiratory infections. If you think you may be Vitamin D deficient, ask us for recommendations at your next visit.

Eat a healthy diet. Eating a healthy diet is one of the best things you can do for your overall health to boost your immune system. Eating plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains will give your body the nutrients it needs to function properly. Additionally, eating foods that are high in antioxidants may help fight off infection.

Maintain a healthy lifestyle. Exercise, such as yoga and meditation, on a regular basis helps increase flexibility, mobility, calms and balances the mind and emotions. Additionally, avoiding tobacco and excessive alcohol consumption may benefit the immune system.
